Citation :
While in Nashville this past week, we had a chance to meet up with an associate of Dolly Parton's Sandollar Production Company, which recently sold the Buffy the Vampire Slayer rights to Warner Bros. for a big screen reboot. The source claims that Glee's Heather Morris has been brought up many times in regards to who will follow in Kristy Swanson and Sarah Michelle Gellar's footsteps. And now we are hearing that the actress is actively being sought to take on this highly coveted role.

While not much is known about this continuation of the franchise, we have learned that the tone will be more in step with the WB series that ran from 1997 to 2003, than it will the original 1992 feature film. The hope is to incorporate a neo-Valley Girl tone that will find this version of the character more in-line with her original Kristy Swanson incarnation, while at the same time presenting a fresh and hip take on the character for today's more sauve audiences.

The source indicates that Heather Morris's comedic timing is a perfect fit for Buffy Summers, and that her background as a dancer and a gymnast will be greatly utilized in the skill set that Buffy is supposed to have as a Slayer. In this new reboot, Buffy will no longer be in high school, but instead facing the same hardships that a lot of young college graduates have today in struggling to find a paying job and a healthy relationship. Though she plays a teenager on Glee, the 23 year-old-actress is actually the right age for this newly rebooted take on the character.

Before appearing on Glee, Morris portrayed a cheerleader in Fired Up and served as a back-up dancer for Beyoncé Knowles from 2007 to 2008 during the singer's Single Ladies tour. Right now, Heather's participation in Buffy the Vampire Slayer should only be considered a rumor.

Rumeur finalement infirmée concernant l'actrice:

Citation :
Screenwriter Whit Anderson has dismissed reports Glee star Heather Morris will take over from Sarah Michelle Gellar as Buffy The Vampire Slayer in a new reboot.

The long running TV series, which began as a 1992 film starring Kristy Swanson, is being re-imagined for a big screen outing, with a new actress playing the cheerleader-turned-vampire hunter.

Morris, who portrays ditsy cheerleader Brittany in Glee, was rumored to be in the frame for the title role - but Anderson has shot down the rumors, insisting work on the film has not even begun yet.

She tells The Hollywood Reporter, "We're not even thinking about casting yet. The script isn't even written!"

Réaction de Nicky:

Citation :
So, in case you haven't heard, the fine people at Warner Brothers have decided to honor/profane the memory of our beloved Buffy the Vampire Slayer TV series with a reboot movie. We know what we think of that idea, and we know what Buffy's father Joss Whedon told us he thinks of that idea, but what about the show's original castmembers? One original Scooby just spoke out to us about it:

MORE: Joss Whedon Reacts to Buffy Movie News: "I Have Strong Mixed Emotions"

We just caught up with original series star Nicholas Brendon, who is currently showcasing his drama chops on Private Practice's critically acclaimed rape storyline as sexual predator Lee McHenry. In Xander Harris' typical fashion, his first reaction when asked about the reboot was to make a joke.

"I hope their vampires don't glitter," quipped Brendon, referencing, of course, the sparkling vampires of the wildly successful Twilight franchise. Then, appearing hesitant to speak out of turn but confident about his point of view, he continued, "You know, listen...I think it's a mistake, I think that it's trying to kind of—they have to reach a whole completely new fanbase. And we already have that fanbase. So it's going to really be hard to kind of do that. But you know, everyone: They remade The Flintstones. Twice, I think."

In short, just because they're making a reboot doesn't mean we have to take it seriously! Every semi-successful franchise in media history comes around for a "reboot" in due time, whether or not a remake is called for, necessary, or wise. Hmmm...any chance that if we don't freak about it, it will just go away?

The reboot, to be written by novice scribe Whit Anderson (you can find her on Twitter: @WhitAnd), is still in the development stage.

Meanwhile, you can see Brendon on Private Practice again this spring (spoiler alert!); he also has a recurring role as Kevin, Garcia's (Kirsten Vangsness) boyfriend and fellow geek, on Criminal Minds.

Ooooooh, rumeur intéressante:

Citation :

Citation :
CNN: What are your thoughts on the new Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie that's in the works (and does not involve creator Joss Whedon)?

Green: I saw that Joss wrote that open letter. Let's be fair, all he really said was, "Hey, this isn't even 10 years old." Are we really at the place where we're remaking "Two and a Half Men"? Is that really still on the air, and we're remaking it? And where is the need for that other than some kind of capitalizing on a trend. You know, there's no public outcry for a remake of Buffy, there's only the opportunity in pop culture where vampires are very popular.

If Joss came out and said, "I want to make a new Buffy movie," even if he said, "I want to do it like the reboot of Spider-Man. I want to put Buffy back in high school and I want to tell a different story with this character," I think people would go with that. But the fact that people who are not connected to it and were not connected to the show or any of the mythology that was created going back to the movie -- which everyone kind of agreed wasn't a perfect version of its potential -- you know, I think that really confuses people. It confuses the audience. They're like, "How am I supposed to feel about this?"

5 Things We’re Not Looking Forward To with the BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER movie reboot

We were all horrified yesterday when Warner Bros. announced they were going to do a big-screen reboot of BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER.

Being major fans of the Joss Whedon-created TV series, and with him having no involvement in the project, it’s clear there’s more nightmare announcements ahead that will send us fans screaming under the bed until this horrible nightmare is over.

Did we mention the script is being written by newbie screenwriter Whit Anderson – she used to be an actress!

However, there are a few things to be grateful for. First of all, considering Warner Bros. is involved and not 20th Century Fox (who I suspect owns story elements generated from the TV show), this new movie will likely be a reboot of the original Joss Whedon penned movie script. That likely (and remember, I just said likely) means no Angel, Xander, Willow, Giles or Spike. At least we’ll be spared Zac Efron as Angel.

However, no matter how you slice it, unless Whedon is brought back into the mix, this is going to be a disaster no matter how the studio spins that this is good for the general public (and not for die-hard fans).

So, to prepare for the worst, ASSIGNMENT X has come up with a list of five more horrible things to prepare yourself for in the coming months if this reboot gets traction past the script stage and actually gets a greenlight.

1) The casting process.
That’s where things are going to get really nasty. You can see the headlines on www.Deadline.com now – “MILEY CYRUS STAKING OUT BUFFY!” You know the producers will be going after vacuous tween stars and TV lightweights who wouldn’t know comic timing if it stepped on them. It’s going to get ugly. And GOSSIP GIRL bad seed Taylor Momsen is out of a job, and you know she’ll be on some executives short list somewhere as a potential Buffy too!

2) Humorless Buffy.
Yes, believe it. If it’s a reboot, and a DARK KNIGHT producer is involved, don’t you think they’re going to take the movie into a darker direction? Forget the cheeky dialogue and dry humor – this will be serious. Way too serious. Buffy will kick ass. She will not make jokes. She will not be a cheerleader. She will be like every other bland action hero out there – except she’ll look good in a short skirt (we hope she’ll wear a skirt).

3) The TWILIGHT Effect (and we’re not talking the BUFFY comic Twilight)
If there is a need to crib from the TV show (and it will probably cost them some money to nab any characters from the 20th Century Fox owned show), it will likely be Angel. Hence, we’ll get tall, dark and brooding vampire vs. slayer action in the Edward and Bella mode. It’s obvious someone was sitting in an office somewhere going, “we need the next TWILIGHT. Get it now!” And then someone else said, “why don’t we just remake BUFFY?”

4) The Q Factor.
Like Christopher Nolan’s Batman and James Bond, Buffy will likely have a Watcher who will also be some Q-like gadget man. The gadgets will be unbearbaly complex and silly. Buffy will no longer be staking, she’ll be shooting crossbow holy water balloons and wielding crosses with knife blades coming out of the bottom. Please stake me now.

5) “This isn’t for the fans.”
Expect that phrase to be thrown around a lot by the studio and the filmmakers to throw everyone off the scent of how bad this is going to be. The producers want a whole new audience, they don’t care about us. They want a reboot. Just like James Bond, Batman and Spider-man have been rebooted, Buffy will be too and be damned the loyal audience that made it a success in the first place. However, even with those reboots, people complain. People bitch. People say they will never, ever see the new actor replacing the old actor. Yet, the moment the trailers come out, the moment the buzz starts happening, we’ll all be curious to see what travesty they’ve made of a ground-breaking franchise and be lining up like lemmings. It’s a shame. It won’t be for the fans but we can all secretly hope they don’t screw it up. I’ll give the producers a chance to wow me, but without the creative guiding force of Joss Whedon behind-the-scenes, it’s going to be a tough sell.

In the end, Joss Whedon said it all in an excerpt from his statement yesterday.

“I always hoped that Buffy would live on even after my death,” says Whedon. “But, you know, AFTER.”

‘Nuff said!

Too soon? BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER movie reboot goes "all dark and broody" Dark Knight style to challenge TWILIGHT franchise.

While creator Joss Whedon is boo-hooing over a big screen Buffy remake -- toys he doesn't even own -- new scripter WHIT ANDERSON IS actually a girl -- one who grew up watching the original BTVS tv series.

A little bit of pop cult history might help here - Whedon wrote and directed a Buffy the Vampire Slayer film starring Kristy Swanson in 1992. It bombed. He later developed the series for TV which became the cornerstone of then fledging 18-49 key market for the WB net in 1997. The movie rights remained with the original film's producers Fran and Kaz Kuzui.

New writer, Whit, 29, told the LA Times, "I didn't really watch much television at all, but I always watched Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

"That was the one show I would watch when I got home. I just loved this character. I was the same age as Buffy, and it was so rare to have a female lead character on TV in those days who was strong and capable and smart but also allowed to be feminine."

During its seven season run, Buffy put some serious bite on the teen market but now in the wake of Twilight-mania, a re-imagining for the big screen was inevitable.

Producer Charles Roven said "There is an active fan base eagerly awaiting this character's return…While this is not your high-school Buffy, she'll be just as witty, tough and sexy as we all remember her to be."

Meanwhile don't cry for Whedon - he's busy directing the super-hero blockbuster The Avengers for Marvel/Disney.

And as for Sarah Michelle Gellar - she'll just have to be content with being the "Adam West" version of the beloved character.

Not so bad in the grand scheme of things.
